Welcome to the website of the Department of Ethnology at the University of Debrecen.
The most important objective of our university program is to provide an opportunity for our students to graduate from our department as experts and teachers who are able to analyze the material and intellectual heritage of the linguistic, ethnic and religious communities coexisting in Central Europe and interpret the contemporary cultural processes.
The subjects we teach, as well as our daily scholarly and research activities, are aimed at introducing the various layers of meaning inherent in the ethnographic heritage of the ever-evolving region of Central Europe not only through spatial and thematic diversity but also from the perspectives of different peoples.
